Description:

Tickets are now available for "The Boys Next Door," featuring Director Sean O'Neill and Producer Michael Pemberton. This production will run February 10-12 and 17-19, 2017. Performances will take place at The Lincoln Center, 935 Maple Avenue in Downers Grove.

The cast features Mark Dedowicz (Arnold) of Westchester, Aaron Ragland (Lucien) of River Forest, Tom Gess (Norman) of Indian Head Park, and Michael Murphy (Barry) of Westmont as the "boys," a group of developmentally challenged men sharing an apartment, as well as Douglas Dvorak of Downers Grove as their caretaker, Jack.

Also included in the cast are Ron Brix of Westmont, Vicki Shargo and Dave Callaghan of Downers Grove, Becky Mattson of Villa Park, Stephanie Svarz and Diana Oshiro of Naperville, and Tina Matriciano of Palos Hills.

The Boys Next Door takes place in a communal residence where four mentally handicapped men live under the supervision of an earnest, but increasingly burned out social worker named Jack.

Norman, who works in a doughnut shop, enjoys taking home the broken donuts. His greatest possession is the huge bundle of keys that dangles from his belt.

Lucien P. Smith has the mind of a child but imagines that he is able to read and comprehend the weighty books he lugs about.

Arnold is a hyperactive chatterbox who suffers from deep-seated insecurities and a persecution complex.

Barry is a brilliant schizophrenic who believes that he is a golf pro and is devastated by the rejection of his brutal father.

The lives of these young men are filled with little things that become big things, and moments that are both poignant and funny.

With touching effectiveness the playwright reminds us that the handicapped, like the rest of us, want only to love and laugh and find meaning and purpose in the brief time that they, like their more fortunate brothers, are allotted on this earth.

Friday and Saturday performances are at 8 p.m., while Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $18 for adults, and $15 for students and seniors, and may be purchased in person at the theater on performance nights, at Lincoln Center M-F during the day, or at Evelyn Jane Boutique, 1008 Curtiss St. in downtown Downers Grove. They can also be reserved by calling 630-415-3682 or online through the Grove Players website, http://www.groveplayers.org/reserve-tickets
