WheatonPeople's Resource Center (PRC) announced a $50,000 grant award from Tyson Foods for its Food Pantry Services.

This investment will allow People’s Resource Center to continue to alleviate hunger in DuPage County and provide nutrition for 28 percent of families accessing our food pantries.

“Tyson Foods support ensures that neighbors facing difficult times have access to the healthy food they need to live productive and active lives,” said Jenifer Fabian, executive director of People’s Resource Center. “Nearly 80% of our families first come to PRC for food pantry services. By supporting the program, Tyson Foods creates a critical bridge to the wide array of programs and services PRC offers for DuPage County residents, including educational and job search programming that can help lift families out of poverty.

PRC operates two of the largest-volume food pantries in Chicagoland, serving 21,000 people each year. Families can shop twice per month for the items that best fit their dietary and cultural needs. With the help of volunteers, they choose from fresh produce, bread, dairy products, frozen meat and healthy non-perishables such as beans or vegetables. It also offers essentials like diapers, birthday bags, toys and hygiene and cleaning products when available. Seniors and disabled individuals can receive monthly grocery deliveries.

This grant is just one of the ways Tyson Foods has partnered with PRC. Tyson Foods regularly provides volunteers and funding to the PRC Food Pantry. Tyson Foods also supports the next generation of health and human services professionals through its Tyson Community Summer Internship program and has educated PRC employees and Board Members through Board Source and the Forefront-Tyson Hunger Cohort.
