City of Darien Celebrates 50 Years with Upcoming Events

Jul 03, 2019 12:20PM

Darien - Darien became a city on December 13, 1969. This year marks its 50th year, and the city will celebrate with a number of events for friends, family and those who love the historic town.

According to the Darien Historical Society, the city got its name from a member of the Homeowners Committee for Incorporation, Sam Kelley. "Having recently enjoyed a visit to Darien, Connecticut, he suggested the name Darien. The vote on incorporation was held on December 13, 1969. It passed by less than 50 votes" (darienhistorical.org).

Today, the City of Darien continues to be a "nice place to live" just like its welcome sign promises. Below are events that are sure to bring the community together this year.
