City of Darien Celebrates 50 Years with Upcoming Events

Darien - Darien became a city on December 13, 1969. This year marks its 50th year, and the city will celebrate with a number of events for friends, family and those who love the historic town.

According to the Darien Historical Society, the city got its name from a member of the Homeowners Committee for Incorporation, Sam Kelley. "Having recently enjoyed a visit to Darien, Connecticut, he suggested the name Darien. The vote on incorporation was held on December 13, 1969. It passed by less than 50 votes" (

Today, the City of Darien continues to be a "nice place to live" just like its welcome sign promises. Below are events that are sure to bring the community together this year.
