“We had the opportunity to honor Cynthia McGann for her wonderful work with the Sunny Patch Farm Project,” Mayor Joe Marchese shared. As part of the Good Worx commitment to raising awareness about local and global issues, McGann started the Sunny Patch Farm to engage the Darien community with agriculture.
Sunny Patch has a focus on sustainability, education (especially for young adults and youth with special needs) and ending hunger in the community.
McGann notes on the farm’s website that it will “showcase and teach sustainable agricultural practices. Foods grown here will be shared with neighbors struggling to access garden fresh foods.”
McGann is the first recipient of the Heart of Darien
Award. The City of Darien
City Council created the new award to show its appreciation for those who "have improved our overall living environment and have
enhanced our ability to make Darien ‘a nice place to live.’”
