Wheaton, IL - This year's Share the Spirit event was an overwhelming success for the People's Resource Center of Wheaton. Over 120 volunteers worked 770 hours to help 690 families. Volunteers helped with everything from shopping and donating to sorting and wrapping. Through the program, 1,849 children in need received holiday gifts.
The center thanked all individuals who supported the event in its December newsletter. They were honored by the community outreach, especially from young kids like Charlie White.
They wrote about his involvement, "He's an incredible seven-year-old who brings a whole new meaning to the word drive. He coordinated a door-to-door food drive in his very own neighborhood. Charlie and his dad, Bob, came up with 'Charlie's Charitable Food Drive' and passed out flyers to all the neighbors a week before knocking on doors. They started off with a wagon, but quickly realized it was too small for the big hearts of their neighbors."
By the end of his drive, Charlie collected food items from 37 houses and filled four grocery carts at the Wheaton center. He's determined to do it next year, and the People's Resource Center applauds him.
"You are an inspiration, Charlie." they affirmed. Both centers, Wheaton and Westmont, encourage others to join Charlie or start their own fundraisers and drives for Share the Spirit 2019.
