Darien Rotary – making a difference
Dec 15, 2017 09:26AM
The Darien Rotary Club is busily making a difference in our community. Their signature program, “Food for Kids” is now in its fourth year. By the end of this school year, the club will have provided approximately 19,650 meals. The Darien club buys, sorts and packs nutritious kid-friendly food which is distributed to 195 grade-school children in Darien, Burr Ridge and Willowbrook. Thanks to volunteer labor, selected food items are broken down into one-kid, one-weekend packets which are distributed to the children by the schools on the last day of the school week. This enables the recipients to come back to school on Monday healthy and ready to learn.
In 2018, the club will hold three packing nights. Community members wishing to help are invited to attend. All events will be held at Lace School (corner of Cass Ave. and 75th Street) starting at 5:30 PM for approximately 90 minutes. The 2018 dates are:
· Wednesday January 10th, 2018
· Thursday February 22nd, 2018
· Thursday April 5th, 2018
Darien Rotary Club’s 4th Annual “Taste of Route 66” fundraiser has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 24th. The event will begin at 6:30 PM at Carriage Greens Country Club in Darien. This event assists with Rotary’s signature program; monetary donations are always appreciated.
Lastly, the club will be meeting temporarily at Home Run Inn Pizza (Lemont Road & 75th Street) every Tuesday at 12:15 PM because our regular meeting place will be closed for renovation. Visitors are always welcome!
