Knights of Columbus hold Reverse Raffle
Make your Friday the 13th in October a lucky one at the 14th annual Reverse Raffle for Knights of Columbus Council 3738.
A maximum of 150 tickets will be sold. The grand prize is $5,000, with additional consolation prizes of $50 each for every 10 tickets sold. Tickets cost $100 and include food and an open bar during the drawing at 25 N. Cass Ave., Fri., Oct. 13, 6–10pm. Additional tickets for food and open bar are available to raffle ticket purchasers for $20 each. The raffle winner need not be present.

Visit the Westmont Fire Dept. Open House
The Westmont Fire Department will host an Open House on Sat., Oct. 7 from 1–3pm at the Johanik Fire Department Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass Ave. Activities planned for the public include equipment demonstrations, EMA displays, the Fire Dept. Bounce House and more. Freddy the Fire Truck and Sparky the Fire Dog will also be present to meet and greet visitors.
On Fri., Oct. 13, 2017, the Fire Department will participate in the annual Silent Parade. The parade will begin at 7pm from Garfield St. and Chicago Ave. in Hinsdale and proceed west on Chicago Ave./Naperville Rd. through Clarendon Hills, Westmont, Downers Grove and then ending in Lisle. The parade, which features fire department vehicles from surrounding communities, pays tribute to all those who have lost their lives to fire tragedy. The Holly Days Food Drive starts Nov. 19
Beginning Sun., Nov. 19 at 12pm, the Holly Days Committee will be collecting non-perishable items to donate to the local food pantries. Please bring your donations to Veterans Memorial Park, located behind the Community Center, on Nov. 20 and to the following locations around town through Dec. 18: Westmont Public Library, Westmont Police and Fire Departments, Westmont Centre and the Westmont Community Center.
It’s Christmastime at the Gregg House
Come celebrate the sweet treats of Christmas at the Gregg House Museum with candy canes, sugar plums, sugar cookies, Hershey’s Kisses, Frango mints, Tootsie Rolls, Marzipan and more! Learn a bit about the history, the ingredients and the making of some of these delicious delights. Vintage candies will be available for purchase. Kids can make a fun craft to take home. Don’t miss this tasty time at the Gregg House, Sat., Nov. 25 3–7pm and Saturdays, Dec. 2, 9, 16, 4–7pm.
See 42nd Street at the Drury Lane Theatre
This holiday season, come see the Tony Award winner for Best Musical, 42nd Street! In this Broadway classic, Peggy Sawyer lands a bigger break in New York City than expected. Embark on a “Trivial Pursuit” at SEASPAR’s 6th annual Trivia Challenge fundraiser
The South East Association for Special Parks And Recreation (SEASPAR) is hosting its 6th annual Trivia Challenge fundraiser on Fri., Oct. 20. The Trivia Challenge will take place at the American Legion Post 80 in Downers Grove. Doors open at 6pm and the games begin at 7pm. Teams answer general knowledge and trivia questions, and the team that has correctly answered the most questions at the end of the competition receives a $500 cash prize.
Tickets for the Trivia Challenge are $25 per person. Tables of ten may also be purchased for $200. Proceeds from the Trivia Challenge will be used to support SEASPAR’s recreational programs and services for individuals with disabilities. Don’t miss the Caskets on Cass Race Oct. 21
The Caskets on Cass Race, Sat., Oct. 21, is a fun and creative foot race of homemade caskets sponsored by community organizations, businesses and area residents. Race check-in is at 12pm in the parking lot at Cass and Irving Ave. The race itself begins at 12:30pm. There is a $25 entry fee. Westmont Native Tree & Shrub sale supports Richmond Garden
The Village of Westmont Environmental Improvement Commission will be holding a Native Tree & Shrub sale on Sat., October 14 from 8am–12pm at the Westmont Water Department, 39 East Burlington Ave. A portion of the proceeds will go to benefit the Richmond Education Garden and Apiary. Chicago pastel painters exhibit at Mayslake Peabody Estate
From Nov. 8–Dec. 3, enjoy works of art by pastel artists from around the country at Mayslake Peabody Estate. The Chicago Pastel Painters Sixth Biennial National Juried Open Exhibition will take place at the Estate, Monday–Friday, 9am–3pm and Saturdays, 9am–1pm. All ages are welcome.
