“The response from the community has been wonderful,” said CUSD201 Superintendent Kevin Carey, who is the education liaison on the Sister City Committee. “A lot of people are very interested in our new student exchange program. If residents are interested in being a host family for our visiting Taiwanese students, or have interest in visiting Taiwan on a future trip, they should contact us right away for more information.”
This November, eight Taiwanese students and one teacher will travel to Westmont to shadow their peers at Westmont High School and then take part in the Thanksgiving holiday with their host families.
“This is a great opportunity for our kids,” added Carey. “We are also looking into the creation of a Mandarin language and culture program for next summer, and then we’re talking about sending Westmont High School students to Taiwan in 2019.” For more information, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org..gov or 630-417-0280.
