Westmont Strategic Plan update

Aug 01, 2017 08:30AM ● By Ben Scott

Community safety is a priority in Westmont

Working to ensure that our staff is well-trained and have the equipment and resources needed to properly serve the public has always been a top priority in Westmont.

Recently, the Westmont Fire Department introduced their newest firefighting vehicle, a 2017 Pierce Velocity Ladder truck. The truck has over 100 feet of straight stick ladder, holds 500 gallons of water, and can pump 2000 gallons of water per minute. The new vehicle replaces the old ladder truck, which was 15 years old.

In addition to ensuring our emergency services have the equipment they need, Police and Fire are always looking to develop new programs that serve the community.

The Westmont Police Department recently created a new Safe Exchange Zone program. Two parking spots on the south side of the Police-Fire Facility at 500 N. Cass have been designated as a safe exchange zone. The program provides a safe place for people to meet when exchanging items or making sales that were initiated on the internet.

New economic development projects throughout community

One of the key themes in our Strategic Plan is economic development. The Village of Westmont partners with the Westmont Chamber of Commerce to work as a team to focus on economic development strategies and goals.

Two new projects will assist car dealerships on Ogden Avenue, which continues to be one of our primary sales tax generators in the community.

The Napleton Porsche dealership at 311 E. Ogden has acquired the property to the east of their current location and is now renovating the property to create a whole new look and feel. The project is already underway.

The Laurel BMW of Westmont dealership at 430 E. Ogden Ave. will unite two of their properties with the partial vacation of Westmont Dr. This expansion will make this one of the biggest BMW dealerships in the Midwest.

In downtown Westmont, the chamber recently assisted with celebrating the ribbon cutting event for Urban Veterinary Associates at 35 N. Cass Ave. The facility offers a full range of veterinary services from regular check-ups to on-site surgery. Check out their website at

There are also several projects being discussed regarding our South Westmont Business District. If residents or businesses have suggestions and/or questions regarding economic development, please contact Larry Forssberg at or 630-960-5553.
