Illinois Section American Water Works Association, the
Village of Westmont, CUSD 201, and Maercker School District 60 held the first
ever Model Water Tower Building Competition in Illinois this past year at the
Westmont Junior High School. A total of 53 students from Westview Junior High
and Westmont Junior High competed in the competition.
“The goal of this program is to get students thinking about the importance of water distribution and safety,” said Public Works Director Mike Ramsey, who created the concept of the competition. “We are looking to expand this event to a state-wide and national competition in the future.”
“This competition builds community with the municipality, the students and the school in a fun way that teaches the students about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math,’ said Westview Junior High 6th grade science teacher Jessica Wolf-Golbach. This year's winners were:
First Place: Matt Pecard and Diellya Dalipi
Second Place: Zakareeya Amra and Adrian Xhemali
Third Place: Cali Landwehr and Arizona Gasme
The Village of Westmont Public Works Department is already planning for next year's competition to be held in the spring of 2018. For more info, please contact Mike Ramsey at mramsey@westmont.il.gov or 630-981-6289.
