"The Moving Wall," a half size replica
(approximately 250 feet long) of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C.,
will be displayed at Prairie Park, Oswego, June 29 – July 3. This memorial was conceived, designed and
built by John DeVitt, Gerry Haver and Norris Shears of the Vietnam Combat
Veterans LTD., of San Jose, California.
The 58,282 names listed on the Memorial represent the sacrifices of a generation during a painful chapter of our history. Many Americans were affected by the Vietnam War, but the feelings and events from that era were buried beneath the guilt associated with an unpopular war and the hope that the passage of time would help heal the nation. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial and "The Moving Wall" have hastened the healing process by giving rightful dignity and honor to those who served their country and the family, friends and fellow soldiers who survive them.
The display is made possible through to cooperative efforts of The Fox Valley Veterans Breakfast Club, Oswegoland Park District, the Oswego Chamber of Commerce, Oswego Community Unit School District 308 and community supporters. Contact Herschel Luckinbill 630-801-9591; or Rick Gardner 630-638-5441.
