Come join the fun at Bethel’s Vacation Bible School. VBS runs from June 19–23 at Bethel Lutheran Church, 36 S. Grant Street, Westmont. This year’s VBS theme will be a Mighty Fortress (In Jesus, the Victory is Won!). Registration opens on Sat., April 1 for children preschool (age 3) to 6th grade. Acappellago presents spring concert “Escape to…Birdland” March 18

Tickets for Acappellago’s March concerts are currently on sale. Directed by Dennis R. Smith, Acappellago includes singers from all over the western suburbs and is currently in its 15th season. A performance of “Escape to…Birdland” will be held on Sat., Mar. 18 at 7:30pm in the Event Hall at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st Street, Oak Brook.

Performance songs include Charles Villiers Stanford’s beloved “The Blue Bird,” the Beatles’ “Blackbird,” celebrations of our feathered friends by Mendelssohn, Ravel and Chicago composer Michael Wolniakowski and the world premiere of “Wild Wooddove” by Minnesota composer Edie Hill. And of course, “Lullaby of Birdland”!

Tues., Apr. 25 is right around the corner. ‘Hit the road’ to Carriage Greens Country Club! From 6–9pm experience a fun-filled evening featuring the greatest taste sensations from local area restaurants, silent auction, raffles, split the pot, entertainment—something for everyone! Bring a ‘carload’ of friends for an unforgettably fun evening!

Darien Rotary Club is proud to host A Taste of Route 66 again this year. This annual event is the pathway for the Rotary Club to continue their service initiatives in the community. Darien Rotary Club’s signature project is Food for Kids—Backpack Program which provides supplemental nutrition to school-age children in the Darien area, ensuring that when they come to school on Monday they are ready to learn. Other programs include Grants-in-Aid benefitting local civic efforts, RYLA which provides leadership training for local high school students and the Darien Rotary Dictionary Project handing out dictionaries annually to every third grader in the Darien area.

Darien Historical Society sponsors presentation on Camp Douglas

The Darien Historical Society is co-sponsoring a presentation at the Indian Prairie Public Library, intersection of Plainfield Road at Clarendon Hills Rd. on Thurs., March 2, from 7–8:30pm. David Keller, Managing Direction of the Camp Douglas Restoration Foundation, will share history of Camp Douglas including recent archaeological discoveries. Located on the south side of Chicago, the camp served as a Union training camp and a prisoner-of-war camp for Confederate prisoners during the Civil War.

Clothing Drive at Holy Trinity Mar. 25 & 26

Do you have things that you no longer need? Please save them for Holy Trinity’s spring drive and help people in the community. Darien Woman’s Club holds children’s clothing resale Mar. 18

The Darien Woman’s Club is holding a children’s clothing resale at Lace School on Sat., March 18 from 9am–2pm. Come and shop for children’s spring/summer clothing, swimwear/accessories, shoes/sandals/athletic shoes, bikes, baby equipment, outdoor play items and maternity wear—all good quality and at a reduced price!

Sellers can register for $7 at the Darien Park District on March 1 from 6:30–8pm and at Safety Village on Mar. 7 from 6:30–8pm. Sellers receive 65% and DWC receives 35%. Proceeds help provide scholarships to local students. Visit or email for more info.

Challenge your mind at the Blast from the Past Senior Trivia Party

Join the Darien Park District in their first ever trivia luncheon. The Blast from the Past Senior Trivia Party will take place from 11:30am–1pm Fri., Mar. 17 at the Darien Park District Community Center, 7301 Fairview Ave. Questions will be geared specifically towards seniors with a wide variety of topics covered. Box lunches will be provided and prizes will be awarded at the end of the party. The registration deadline for the trivia party is Mar. 12.

Darien Park District hosts Easter Egg Hunt April 15

The Easter Bunny will be leaving eggs for all Darien children ages 2–8 to find on Sat., April 15 at 9am. The Easter egg hunt will take place at Darien Community Park (Plainfield & Clarendon Hills Rd.) and Westwood Park (75th and Fairview). Don’t forget to bring a bag to collect your eggs in!

Come to the second annual How-To Expo

Enjoy 30 workshops in 3 hours at the Indian Prairie Public Library’s second annual How-To Expo on Sat., April 29, from 1–4pm. This free, all-ages celebration of the creative and do-it-yourself mindset will take over the entire library, and all workshops will be taught by community members and local business owners. Enjoy games, crafts and food on 50 Cents Day

If you love to have fun, make sure you join the Darien Park District Fri., Apr. 28 for an evening of games, crafts, face painting, balloon art and more.

Games will be 50 cents, you can have your face painted for 50 cents and a variety of craft projects will be 50 cents each. Hot dogs, chips, popcorn and snow cones will also be 50 cents each. Pre-registration is not required, but all children must be accompanied by an adult. $5 punch cards will be sold, so there’s no need to bring a pocket full of quarters. If you’re tired of hearing “I’m bored” come out for an evening packed with fun activities! 50 Cents Day will take place from 6:30–8:30pm at the Darien Park District Community Center, 7301 Fairview Ave.

Picosa presents the music of Chicago composers March 4

Picosa brings a vibrant concert program to the stage on Sat., Mar. 4 at 3pm at Mayslake Peabody Estate, 1717 W. 31st St., Oak Brook. Picosa showcases its signature symphonic sound with innovative programming that brings the art of virtuosic chamber music to every concert experience.
