“I love Westmont,” said blues great Eddy “The Chief” Clearwater when he recently returned to town to visit the Muddy Waters Museum at Westmont Centre, 1 S. Cass Ave. “I have a lot of fond memories of Westmont from back in the day.”
Clearwater lived in Westmont during the 1980’s and was friends with fellow blues legend Muddy Waters. Clearwater was recently inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame. “This feels like a dream,” said Clearwater about the honor.
During his visit, Clearwater met with Mayor Ron Gunter (left) and presented the Westmont Special Events Corporation with several personal artifacts including stage outfits, a signed guitar, and his trademark “Chief” headdress to be included in the Muddy Waters Museum. Clearwater’s grandmother was a full-blooded Cherokeee, hence his attraction to native American culture and his signature look.
