Recycling opportunities

Electronics Recycling—The Downers Grove Township Highway Dept. hosts a free electronics recycling drop-off every third Saturday of the month (except for holiday weekends), 8am to 12pm, at their Westmont location, 318 E. Quincy St.

Safe Disposal of Needles—There is a Sharps Kiosk in the lobby of the Westmont Police Department, 500 N. Cass Ave. Residents will have access to the kiosk during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm, to safely drop off unwanted or used needles. Needles should be put in the proper receptacles, located at the Westmont Police Department, before being placed in the kiosk.

Pumpkin Composting—The Farm, located at 34 E. 63rd St., will be accepting unwanted/used pumpkins starting on Mon., Nov. 2 through Fri., Nov. 6, 10am to 4pm, and Sat., Nov. 7, 9am to 3pm. All pumpkins must be cleaned free of inorganic materials such as candles and decorations prior to being disposed in the composting collection container.

Holiday Lights Recycling—Beginning Nov. 13 and continuing through the end of January, 2016, citizens will be able to recycle their unwanted holiday lights at the Westmont Fire Department, 6015 S. Cass. The collection container will be marked and positioned in the south parking lot.

Cooking Oil Recycling—On Sat., Nov. 29, 9am to 12pm, there will be a cooking oil recycling event at the Johanik Fire Station Headquarters, 6015 S. Cass. Residents are encouraged to bring their used cooking oil to the event so that it can be collected and recycled.
