Show your support to the community on "Candy Day"

Sep 23, 2015 12:30PM ● By Neighbors Magazines

Darien Lions Club members and friends will be out in the community, in an effort to raise funds for the vision and hearing impaired on Fri. and Sat., Oct. 9 & 10. Club members give away candy and accept monetary donations. For over 21 years the people of Darien have responded quite generously and the Darien Lions Club has led all Illinois Lions Club on funds raised every year.

While a portion of the monies collected support many worthwhile statewide programs of the Illinois Lions Foundation, half of the funds raised stay in the Darien area. Nearly a century ago, Helen Keller challenged the Lions Club members to be "Knights of the blind", and the Darien Lions Club has followed through by raising tens of thousands of dollars every year for eye/hearing care, research and the community activities.

People can show their support by giving generously during the 9th and 10th weekend by writing a check, underwriting the cost of a box of candy, or volunteering during the Candy Day weekend. The Darien Lions Club practices the "We Serve" motto as it continues to help out vision/hearing impaired people and needy persons locally in Darien and nearby communities. Brian Rzepka, 630-685-2755.
