The French Market has been enjoyed in the western suburbs for a number of years. Rolland Bensidoun is to thank for the idea of having French Markets here. Like his father and grandfather before him, he began managing open-air markets in and around France when he was a young man. For almost 60 years, Rolland expanded his operation to more than 60 markets throughout France and the Paris Metropolitan area, introducing his sons, Pascal and Sebastien, to the business.

In 1997, The Bensidouns decided to expand outside of Europe to develop the French Market in the United States. In addition to bringing their expertise and resources, they brought a touch of Parisian color to the Midwest.

Their first effort was the opening of the Wheaton French Market in 1997. Other communities took notice and became interested in this distinctively different type of seasonal marketplace.

French Markets are differentiated from their Farmers market cousins by embellishing on the fresh local food theme with a broader variety of local businesses and artisans presenting their wares.  They are also clearly identifiable by the presence of colorful French Market Canopies installed in the pavement that pop up in towns each week. The canopies are manufactured and imported from France which will certainly be very familiar to anyone that has been to a street market in Paris. Tres Magnifique!

Studio Giverny: Air plants and handmade ceramics from their Warenville studio.

The Lisle French Market opened in the spring of 2006, offering fresh produce and local crafts to the community.  Over the course of the years since then and largely due to the developing downtown the market has changed locations a few times and has settled this year at its beautiful new home adjacent to the Prairie Walk pond.

The Lisle French Market is committed to offering the diversity found in a traditional European market place. Public markets are known first and foremost for their fresh assortment of fruits and vegetables. The Lisle market does not disappoint. Each week you can visit Windy Acres Farm from West Chicago, 6th Generation Farm from Southern Illinois and also Bountiful Blessings farm from Hinckley Illinois.

Following this tradition the Lisle French market vendors also present a diverse offering of specialty foods including hot and cold beverages, French crepes, gourmet doughnuts, pastries, chocolate sea salt dipped bacon, and more. The ever popular Golden Eagle mobile truck delights customers with a variety of hot dogs, bratwurst, homemade soups, soft drinks and water.  If you are visiting the splash park this is a great and convenient place to have lunch! The market also hosts many wonderful artisans including artwork, crafts, soaps, handmade jewelry, knife sharpening, clothing, garden and home accessories.  There is truly something here for every member of your family.

The market is enhanced by regular events which include children’s activities, weekly entertainment and not-for-profit service organization booths. . Bensidoun’s social media pages provide additional information about these events and vendors at, and website at for helpful tips about their seasonal produce and items.

The Lisle French Market operates 8am-1pm every Saturday until October 31 at our new location off of Garfield Ave at The Prairie Walk Pond north of Burlington Ave. Stop by this Saturday to see your neighbors and meet a wonderful community of vendors!
